What it is

Paul W. S. Anderson directed six earlier Resident Evil movies starring Milla Jovovich; together they made more than $1 billion. Johannes Roberts directed 2021's Welcome to Raccoon City, the lowest-performing live-action entry. The films are produced by Constantin Films, which bought the rights in the 1990s and has held them since.

After Welcome to Raccoon City underperformed, Constantin planned to put the film franchise on ice until Cregger came forward with a pitch. Cregger has said he has ideas for another Resident Evil movie, but he has also said he is done with franchise movies and is making an original film, The Flood, next.

Where to watch

GameSpot does not list a streaming home for Cregger's Resident Evil; at the time of writing it was a theatrical release. Availability for individual titles varies by region.
