Sorry, Street Fighter Movie, But Mondo Just Won The Poster Fight
Release · 14 Oct 2026
Mondo has unveiled a new Street Fighter 2 poster by artist Gian Galang celebrating the Ryu versus Sagat rivalry, days before the new Street Fighter movie hits theaters.
Release date
The poster goes on sale starting October 16 at 9 AM PT, priced at $90, according to GameSpot. The new live-action Street Fighter movie also arrives in theaters on October 16.
What it is
- A Street Fighter 2 poster from Mondo, designed by artist and painter Gian Galang. GameSpot says the official movie poster is "fine", but Mondo's new one is "much better, striking".
- It captures one of the most iconic moments of the fighting game franchise, highlighting the legendary rivalry between Ryu and Sagat. Galang said he depicted "the Shoryuken between Ryu and Sagat, exploding with lightning, splitting the composition in two".
- Galang created a unique, multi-layered composition, and Mondo has reprinted it as a nine-color screenprint on high-quality House White paper.
- Galang said: "Street Fighter 2 was the first video game I ever owned, and it reinforced the bond between art and martial arts that I loved as a kid and has defined my career as an adult."
Where to get
The poster will be available from Mondo, on sale from October 16 at 9 AM PT for $90. The Street Fighter movie, helmed by Bad Trip director Kitao Sakurai, also releases on October 16.
Background
GameSpot notes the storied history between Ryu and Sagat: in the original Street Fighter lore, their first meeting left Sagat with a chest scar from Ryu's Shoryuken. In more Street Fighter news, the developers behind the series recently said the franchise was on "life support" 10 years ago; Street Fighter 6 producer Shuhei Matsumoto and director Takayuki Nakayama told GameSpot they realised during Street Fighter 5 that the IP "would probably die in 10 years" if nothing changed, before Street Fighter 6's 2023 release reenergised it.
